Explanatory note

Opening event to launch the

International Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace, 2023

(27 January 2023)

 

In order to implement the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 77/32 of December 6, 2022, which proclaimed 2023 as the International Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace, it is planned to hold special events aimed at mobilizing the international community to develop a culture of peace and dialogue in relations between states, strengthen political dialogue based on mutual understanding and cooperation, and achieve sustainable peace, solidarity and harmony.

The opening event to launch the International Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace will take place in a hybrid format with the participation of the senior officials of the United Nations, representatives of the UN Member States, relevant international and regional organizations and civil society.

During this event, agencies of the UN system, national participants will present view and proposals to observe the International Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace, share information on activities aimed at implementation of the International Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace.

The organizers and relevant United Nations institutions will summarize the initiatives and proposals expressed, and prepare a Roadmap for the International Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace (see attached draft).
