ABOUT THE MEETINGS OF THE DELEGATION OF TURKMENISTAN IN GENEVA

On April 17, 2023, the Turkmen delegation visiting Geneva held meetings with the heads of a number of international organizations.

At the meeting with the Deputy Secretary General of the UN, Director General of the UN Geneva Office T.Valovaya, a wide range of issues related to the strategic partnership of Turkmenistan with the United Nations was discussed. Among them, an important place was given to consideration of problems of security, observance of the non-proliferation regime, and to the disarmament process.

In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan drew attention to the fact that Turkmenistan, being a country with an internationally recognized status of permanent neutrality, is in favor of consolidating the efforts of the world community in matters of strengthening international peace and security. Noting specific practical steps in this direction, the head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry highlighted a number of important international initiatives that Turkmenistan has come up with at the United Nations.

In particular, they spoke about the importance of the International Conference on Disarmament in Central Asia and the Caspian Region, held several years ago in Ashgabat.

The parties also discussed in detail issues related to the expansion of partnerships in the information sphere. Pointing to the existing potential opportunities in the exchange of experience in the work of the media, the training of international journalists, the parties agreed to make joint efforts in the near future to strengthen cooperation in this area.

On the same day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan met with the Deputy Secretary General, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Olga Algayerova, during which the parties analyzed the current state of partnership between Turkmenistan and the UNECE and the prospects for its further development. In this context, a set of joint measures was agreed, aimed at intensifying work in such areas as sustainable energy, transport, digitalization, and road safety.

At the talks with the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Darren Tang, issues of practical implementation of conventions, agreements, treaties and other multilateral acts regulating the rules and procedures for the implementation of copyright and their protection were considered. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan informed D. Tang about the specific practical results achieved at the national level in matters of intellectual property and the work of relevant state structures.

In order to intensify joint activities, the parties agreed to prepare a "road map", including in it such items as the partnership of Turkmenistan with the WIPO Academy, holding consultations aimed at preparing proposals for Turkmenistan's accession to international legal acts in the field of intellectual property and their implementation in national legislation.
