MULTIFACETED COOPERATION WITH THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT WAS DISCUSSED AT THE MFA OF TURKMENISTAN

On June 19, 2023, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs M.Byashimova held a meeting with the delegation of the European Parliament, which arrived on a visit to Turkmenistan.

During the talks, a review of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union was carried out, issues of further development of relations between Turkmenistan and the European Union both bilaterally and within the framework of the “Central Asia-European Union” format were discussed.

The Turkmen side emphasized the effective political and diplomatic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union in a wide range of areas. Particular importance was given to regular meetings of the joint committee "Turkmenistan-EU", Inter-Parliamentary dialogue, Dialogue on human rights. Apart from that, the importance of the EU Culture Week in Turkmenistan, the conference on cooperation in the field of education, as well as the forum on "green" energy, held last year in Ashgabat, was noted.

The parties noted the intensification of partnership in the framework of the "Central Asia-European Union" format, within the framework of which meetings are regularly held at the level of foreign ministers, meetings in frames of the High-Level Political and Security Dialogue between the EU and the countries of Central Asia, and economic forums.

While exchanging the views on international and regional issues, the delegation of the European Parliament emphasized the importance of international humanitarian initiatives of Turkmenistan aimed at ensuring peace and sustainable development, including the efforts of our country in the process of resolving the situation and restoring peace in Afghanistan.

During the meeting, wide opportunities for cooperation in the field of education, digitalization, energy, transport, ecology, water resources and environmental protection were identified.

In addition, the delegates of the European Parliament highlighted the development of gender equality, the growing role of women and youth in the political life of Turkmenistan.
