Turkmenistan engages with CTBTO on advancing technical collaboration and strengthening global monitoring

On 7 August 2025, Ambassador Hemra Amannazarov, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Vienna, held a constructive meeting with representatives of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), including experts from the International Monitoring System (IMS) and the International Data Centre (IDC).
The meeting followed the Cabinet of Ministers session held on 20 July 2025, during which Deputy-Chairman of the Cabinet and Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov reported on efforts to strengthen Turkmenistan’s cooperation with international organizations, with a particular focus on CTBTO-related activities and nuclear non-proliferation.
Discussions centered on advancing technical cooperation under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), with special emphasis on the status and development of Primary Seismic Station PS44 Alibek, an integral part of the International Monitoring System. Both sides also exchanged views on future capacity-building initiatives, including Turkmenistan’s proposal to host a regional seminar for CTBTO National Data Centres in 2026.
