Parliament (Mejlis) of Turkmenistan ratified the Paris Agreement

Today, the Parliament of Turkmenistan has ratified the Paris Agreement approved at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP-21) in Paris on 12 December 2015 and signed by Turkmenistan on 23 September 2016 at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Turkmenistan being an active supporter of the prevention of negative consequences of climate change, consistently conducts numerous events aimed at reduction of green house emissions into the atmosphere. A good example of it is the National Climate Change Strategy of Turkmenistan adopted on 15 June 2012, which outlines main principles, specific goals and measures for reduction of emissions, and their applicability in various areas of the country’s economy.
It should be noted, that the environment is a priority area of international cooperation of Turkmenistan. Numerous initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in the field of environment, voiced at international forums: the UN General Assembly sessions, Conference on Sustainable Development “Rio+20”, Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, the Seventh World Water Forum in Tegu, attest that.
The ratification of the Paris Agreement by Turkmenistan has become another confirmation of the country’s commitment to international environmental agreements and a logical continuation of active nature conservation policy of the state.
