SEMINAR WAS HELD IN ASHGABAT ON THE REGIONAL PROJECT “ECOSYSTEM-BASED LAND USE AND PRESERVATION OF ECOSYSTEMS ALONG THE LOWER SECTIONS OF AMU DARYA RIVER”

On the 7th of June 2019, a seminar on the Regional project “Ecosystem-based land use and preservation of ecosystems along the lower sections of Amu Darya River” was held in the “Yildiz” hotel of Ashgabat city.  The coordinator of this project that is implemented in partnership with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) is the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection of Turkmenistan.    

The representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Academy of Sciences, National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna, Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, National Commission for UNESCO, as well as the Lebap and Dashoguz regions’ municipalities took part in the seminar.  The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany in Turkmenistan Ms.Margret Uebber, representatives of the GIZ and international experts also participated to the seminar.    

The participants of the seminar were acquainted with the goals and priorities of the Project aimed at perfecting the activities on environmental protection and improving the ecological situation in the Amu Darya region.  During the seminar, the issues of upholding the ecological balance in specially protected natural territories were discussed.  Also, the results of the climate change impacts on the agriculture and ecosystems of the coastal regions were considered.
