THE CONSECUTIVE SESSION OF THE PEOPLE’S COUNCIL OF TURKMENISTAN WAS HELD IN ASHGABAT

On September 25, 2019, the second session of the People’s Council of Turkmenistan chaired by the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was held in the “Rukhiyet” Palace of Ashgabat city.

The members of the Government, head and deputies of the Parliament (Mejlis), elders, state employees of social-economic and cultural-humanitarian sphere, workers of the villages and regions of the country, chiefs of diplomatic missions of Turkmenistan accredited abroad, as well as the representatives of social organizations, mass media, and guests of the capital participated to the session.  

During the meeting that was held in cheerful atmosphere, a wide spectrum of issues pertaining to the perfection of the constitutional basis of the country and state administration taking into consideration the generally accepted democratic principles, as well as the values of Turkmen people was considered.  

In his address, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted the positive pace of social and economic growth of the country in current year, voiced the priority directions of national policy including the diversification of economy and enhancement of financial mechanisms, and underlined the necessity of adopting the reforms in the area of functioning of the state and legislative power.  Also the initiative on transferring to two-chamber parliamentary system was declared. 

The Head of State paid special attention to the achievements of Turkmenistan during the past 28 years since the country gained its independence.  The important contribution of hardworking Turkmen people in this process was highlighted. 

The President also spoke about the significance of external political course of the state and high standing of Turkmenistan on the international arena. The success of cooperation with the UN, EU, CIS and other international organizations was noted. The Head of State noted that Turkmenistan is intending to implement further its peace-loving policy aimed at the economic growth, preservation of stability and security in the whole region.        

In the framework of the session, the participants of the People’s Council of Turkmenistan with distinguished merits for the benefit of the motherland received high awards. The President of Turkmenistan awarded the ranks of “Hero of Turkmenistan” with the medal “Altyn Ay” (Golden Moon) to the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan in the United Nations Aksoltan Atayeva, as well as the Russian cosmonaut, a native of Turkmenistan Oleg Kononenko.
