A MEETING WAS HELD ON THE NATIONAL STRATEGY OF TURKMENISTAN FOR THE PREVENTION OF VIOLENT EXTREMISM AND COUNTERING TERRORISM

On December 10, 2019, a thematic meeting was held in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on the National Strategy of Turkmenistan for the Prevention of Violent Extremism and Countering Terrorism for 2020-2024.

The round table was attended by the heads and representatives of several ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, including the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan, and the General Prosecutor's Office of Turkmenistan. The event was also attended by the Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia and Permanent Representatives of Turkmenistan to the United Nations’ offices in Geneva and Vienna.

The overall goal of the round table was to discuss the next steps to implement the tasks arising from the National Strategy of Turkmenistan and the implementation of a systematic policy in the field of combating terrorism, the development of cooperation between state institutions, public associations with international organizations, and the improvement of the work in this direction.

This document was adopted on December 6, 2019 by the relevant Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan. In accordance with the document, ministries, sectoral departments and public associations of Turkmenistan are required to ensure the implementation of the measures provided in the above strategy. During the meeting, the effective work extended by the Government of Turkmenistan over the years of independence in this direction was also discussed.
