TURKMENISTAN ACTIVELY COOPERATES WITH THE INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS IN FORMING THE GLOBAL SDG AGENDA

On April 27, 2020, the Global Session “National Indicators and the National Voluntary Reviews on the Sustainable Development Goals” was held in the videoconference format in the UN Building located in Ashgabat. 

The representatives of the United Nations and its structural agencies, working in our country, as well as the representatives of a number of ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Economy, State Committee for Statistics, State Committee for Television, Radio Broadcasting and Cinematography and others participated to the session. 

The goal of the global session laid in the clarification of the national state priorities in the context of interrelation of ongoing preparation of the National Voluntary Review with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. 

As the participants of the meeting stated, SDGs stand for the global strategic plan till 2030 and in this context Turkmenistan takes active part in forming the Global Agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals.  In July of 2019, Turkmenistan had presented to the world community its National Voluntary Review on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.  On March 14, 2020, our country has signed the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework between the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations for 2021-2025.

During the speeches, it was emphasized that the national level consultations take place in Turkmenistan on systematic basis in regard to the priorities of Turkmenistan’s cooperation with the UN on the implementation of the SDGs and preparation of the National Voluntary Review with active participation of the UN partners, and the representatives of the government, parliament, organizations of civil society and the business of the country.
