MEETING OF CENTRAL ASIA MINISTERS OF AGRICULTURE AND FAO

On May 19, 2020, a video conference was held between the Ministers of Agriculture of Central Asian countries with the participation of representatives of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

During the video conference, the heads of the agricultural authorities of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Tajikistan took steps to ensure the development of agriculture and the continuous production of food in the country. Discussions were held to reduce the negative impact of the pandemic (COVID-19) on food security.

During the meeting, Vladimir Rahmanin, FAO Deputy Director General, FAO Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia, and Viorel Gutsu, FAO Regional Coordinator for Central Asia, spoke about the development and security of agriculture and food security in Central Asia. The report noted the need to maintain and use tools for sustainable cooperation between the agricultural and food sectors of Central Asian countries.

In the speech, Turkmen delegation briefed on the main directions of the state policy of Turkmenistan in the field of agriculture and food security. Turkmenistan's positive experience in preventing the spread of coronavirus infection to the country through the measures taken to strengthen phytosanitary and veterinary surveillance on the state borders of the country was also noted.
