Vienna, 21 October 2026 - The Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Austria hosted a festive reception at Vienna City Hall (Rathaus) on 21 October 2026 to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence.

The event was attended by representatives of the Austrian Government, including the President of Federal Council of the Austrian Parliament, the diplomatic corps, heads of international organizations based in Vienna, business representatives, and members of the Turkmen diaspora in Austria.

The reception provided an opportunity to mark this important anniversary and reflect on Turkmenistan’s development since gaining independence in 1991, as well as its commitment to peace, sustainable development, and constructive international cooperation.

In his remarks, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan expressed appreciation to the Austrian authorities and all participants for their presence. He emphasized the importance attached by Turkmenistan to the further development of friendly relations with Austria, including through political dialogue, economic and trade cooperation, cultural exchanges, and contacts between peoples.

The Ambassador also outlined key priorities of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy, based on the country’s status of permanent neutrality, peaceful coexistence, respect for the sovereign equality of States, and adherence to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations. In the context of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, particular attention was given to the promotion of a culture of peace and trust, the role of preventive diplomacy, and the strengthening of multilateral cooperation in addressing international challenges.

In this regard, Turkmenistan’s candidacy for non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council for the 2031–2032 term reflects the country’s intention to contribute further to international efforts to maintain peace and security and to promote dialogue and cooperation among nations.

The reception also offered guests an opportunity to become acquainted with Turkmenistan’s rich cultural heritage, national traditions, and contemporary development. It provided a setting for exchanges among representatives of government institutions, diplomatic missions, international organizations, the business community, and the Turkmen diaspora.

The celebration reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s interest in strengthening its relations with Austria and in fostering international cooperation on the basis of mutual respect, trust, and the shared objectives of peace and sustainable development.
