Issues of growing partnership between Turkmenistan and the CTBTO were discussed in Vienna

On 8 October 2025, the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations in Vienna, H.E. Ambassador Hemra Amannazarov, held a constructive meeting with Dr. Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), at the Organization’s headquarters in Vienna.
At the outset, Dr. Floyd warmly recalled his meeting with the President of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat 30 July 2024, expressing his fond memories and appreciation for Turkmenistan’s continued commitment to global peace and security.
The Turkmen delegation reaffirmed its principled stance on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, as outlined during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. As party to the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia and other key international treaties, Turkmenistan reiterated its dedication to promoting peace and global security.
The delegation also highlighted that 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, recognized by the UN as the International Year of Peace and Trust.
Looking ahead, the two sides discussed upcoming milestones within the CTBT framework. The 30th anniversary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, which Turkmenistan signed on 24 September 1996, will be commemorated in 2026. Both parties expressed interest in jointly promoting this anniversary and explored possibilities for organizing commemorative events.
The meeting reviewed the status of Primary Seismic Station 44 (PS44), which Turkmenistan is proudly hosting and its expected upgrade.
The meeting reaffirmed the close and growing partnership between Turkmenistan and the CTBTO, and the shared commitment to advancing the goals of a nuclear-weapon-free world and international peace and security.
