Turkmenistan Delegation Participates in the 70th IAEA General Conference

Vienna, 15 September 2026 - A delegation of Turkmenistan, headed by Deputy Minister of Health and Medical Industry Azat Ovezov, is participating in the 70th Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference, held in Vienna from 14 to 18 September 2026.

In its national statement, the delegation congratulated the IAEA on its 70th anniversary and noted that 2026 also marks 10 years of Turkmenistan’s membership in the Agency.

The delegation highlighted Turkmenistan’s commitment to nuclear non-proliferation, safety and security, and the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology. Particular attention was given to cooperation in healthcare, including cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as the IAEA’s support for the International Scientific and Clinical Centre of Oncology in Ashgabat.

The delegation also took part in the IAEA Scientific Forum “Rays of Hope: Delivering on the Promise of Cancer Care,” dedicated to expanding access to cancer diagnosis and treatment through nuclear science and technology.

Turkmenistan also presented the initiative “Atoms for Landlocked Developing Countries”, aimed at expanding access to the peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology.

The delegation reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to further strengthen cooperation with the IAEA and its Member States.
