Active cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency
The Delegation of Turkmenistan, headed by the Deputy Minister of Defence, attended the International Conference on Nuclear Security: Shaping the Future", hosted by the IAEA.
During this multilateral meeting, the world community discussed the experience gained in the field of nuclear security, developments, future tasks and relevant topics on the agenda of the International Conference.
The Turkmen delegation in its statement noted the productive cooperation developed between Turkmenistan and the Agency. It was emphasized that the country gives great importance to further strengthening cooperation in areas of particular interest and significance. Among them, such priorities as the enhancement of regulatory and coordination work, capacity building and the involvement of relevant counterparts.
Along with this, it was highlighted that last year Turkmenistan acceded to the “Convention on Early Notification of Nuclear Accident” and the “Convention on Assistance in the Case of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency”.
This multilateral meeting is held every four years, and its fourth meeting took place from 20 to 24 May 2024, at the IAEA headquarters, with over 2000 participants at various levels from more than 130 IAEA Member States and relevant multilateral organisations.
