The Delegation of Turkmenistan Participates in the 31st OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum in Prague

Prague, 13 September 2024 – The Delegation of Turkmenistan actively participated in the 31st OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum, held in Prague on 12-13 September 2024. The forum, under the theme "Enhancing Security and Stability in the OSCE Region through Digital Innovation, Contributing to Sustainable Development and Climate Adaptation", gathered representatives from OSCE participating states, international organizations, and experts to discuss pressing challenges related to economic development, digital transformation, and climate change.

The Turkmenistan Delegation, led by Ambassador Hemra Amannazarov, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the OSCE, highlighted Turkmenistan's commitment to addressing global economic and environmental challenges, particularly in the areas of digital innovation, climate adaptation, and sustainable development.

In the opening remarks, Turkmenistan emphasized its ongoing efforts in digitalization and the advancement of smart city infrastructure, referencing the Arkadag Smart City project, which represents a key national initiative in modern urban development and digital innovation.

Turkmenistan also acknowledged the significance of newly launched several key infrastructure projects, primarily centered around the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, which aims to enhance energy security and economic cooperation in the region.

During the forum, Turkmenistan reiterated its commitment to regional cooperation, particularly in water management, energy infrastructure resilience, and climate adaptation efforts. The importance of collaborative approaches to tackle the adverse effects of climate change was also emphasized and was underscored Turkmenistan’s initiatives to promote sustainable agricultural practices and water diplomacy in the region.

In the area of digital innovation, the delegation expressed gratitude to the OSCE Secretariat for its support in advancing Turkmenistan’s national digitalization plan, which includes projects aimed at modernizing public services, enhancing digital infrastructure, and fostering innovation in the economy.

Throughout the forum, Turkmenistan reinforced its role as a positive neutral country committed to fostering peace and security in the OSCE region.

The 31st OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum provided a platform for participating states to engage in meaningful dialogue, share best practices, and develop concrete solutions to enhance regional security through economic and environmental cooperation.
