As part of Turkmenistan’s participation in the 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the IAEA organized a side event titled "Awaza Programme of Action: Atoms for LLDCs", dedicated to the outcomes of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), which was held in Awaza, on the Caspian Sea coast, from 5 to 8 August 2025.

The event brought together official delegations of IAEA Member States, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and various experts from the IAEA and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

At the beginning of the event, a special video address was delivered by H.E. Ms. Rabab Fatima, UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States.

Participants of the meeting emphasized that nuclear technologies can directly contribute to the development of LLDCs, from food and water security to healthcare, climate resilience, and trade integration. It was noted that the event "Awaza Programme of Action: Atoms for LLDCs" became an important platform for identifying solutions that can accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ensure the effective implementation of the Awaza Programme of Action for 2024–2034.

During the event, participants were also introduced to Turkmenistan’s experience in the use of nuclear technologies in the medical field, particularly in the fight against cancer. In this context, the positive cooperation between Turkmenistan and the IAEA regarding the construction of the International Scientific and Clinical Oncology Center in Ashgabat was highlighted, and the efforts of the Turkmen side were highly praised.
