High-level delegations from the OSCE PA have recently engaged in fruitful discussions with key stakeholders in Turkmenistan.

On April 2nd, 2024, Mr. Reinhold Lopatka, Vice-President of the OSCE PA, visited Turkmenistan, holding meetings with Chairperson of the Mejlis Ms. Dunyagozel Gulmanova, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Mr. Rashid Meredov and Mr. John MacGregor, Head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, and others. Parties involved expressed satisfaction with the growing cooperation dynamics in crucial sectors including energy security, transport connectivity, and environmental safety. The discussions primarily centered around outlining the main directions and prospects for interaction between the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the OSCE PA.

On April 7th, 2024, Ms. Farah Karimi, the OSCE PA’s Special Representative on Central Asia, concluded a three-day visit to Turkmenistan with a focus on enhancing regional co-operation, addressing climate change challenges, and promoting women’s empowerment. Ms. Karimi met with several interlocutors, including Chairperson of the Mejlis Ms. Dunyagozel Gulmanova, Deputy Foreign Minister Ms. Myahri Bashimova, Minister of Environmental Protection Mr. Charygeldi Babanyyazov, and others. Discussions centered around key areas identified for collaboration, including climate change mitigation, joint water management, and promoting clean energy resources.

The visits by Mr. Reinhold Lopatka, Vice-President of the OSCE PA, and Ms. Farah Karimi, the OSCE PA’s Special Representative on Central Asia, signify a positive trajectory in Turkmenistan's collaboration with the OSCE PA. These engagements have set the stage for further dialogue and concrete actions aimed at addressing pressing regional challenges and fostering mutual understanding and cooperation in the years ahead.
