Visa for Turkmenistan
Obtaining visa for Turkmenistan practically consists of two key stages:
Permission to enter Turkmenistan is granted by the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan (SMST). Letter of Invitation (LOI) issued by the SMST serves as proof of granted permission.
Depending on the type of visa there are certain procedures and established good practice to submit application for LOI. Also, the list of documents to be submitted might vary depending on the type of visa.
In the following cases application for LOI can be submitted at the Embassy in Vienna:
1.2.1. A citizen of Turkmenistan is to get visa for her/his family members (spouse, children);
1.2.2. Public officials, representatives of international organizations traveling on business trip to Turkmenistan.
A non-refundable consular fee of 15 Euro is required for submission. The fee must be paid to the Embassy’s account [here], and proof of payment should be included with the other required documents.
2. TO GET VISA STICKER IN YOUR PASSPORT.
Once permission to enter the country is granted by issuing the LOI, the applicant needs to get visa sticker in the passport.
2.1. Where to get visa sticker in your passport:
2.1.1. At any Embassy or Consulate General of Turkmenistan abroad, or
2.1.2. Upon arrival at the border crossing points of Turkmenistan, including international airports.
2.2. To get visa sticker in your passport at the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Vienna.

Important Note: Only copies produced from a copier are acceptable. Images captured by a mobile device and subsequently printed are not accepted as valid copies.

3. SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION AT THE EMBASSY.
There are two options to submit application both for LOI and for visa sticker in your passport:
3.1. in person, make an appointment here; or
3.2. by mail, send to the Embassy’s address (Embassy of Turkmenistan in Vienna, Argentinierstraße 22/Stiege II/EG, 1040 Wien). It is recommended to send registered mail to track delivery status.
Collection of passport and visa:
- in person, make an appointment here; or
- by mail, to get back a document by mail one is required at the submission stage to include in the list of required documents a registered mail envelope with a return address providing the ability to track delivery status.
