International Nowruz Day Celebrated at the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna
Vienna, April 2, 2025 — The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan in Vienna proudly co-organized the celebration of the International Day of Nowruz at the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna. The event was held within the framework of activities marking the United Nations General Assembly Resolution initiated by Turkmenistan, proclaiming 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust.
The celebration brought together Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives of numerous countries, senior officials from international organizations, members of the diplomatic corps, youth and students, creating a vibrant atmosphere of cultural diversity and shared heritage.
As part of the event, the Embassy of Turkmenistan presented a cultural exhibition showcasing traditional Turkmen crafts, national attire, and visual materials reflecting the country’s rich history and cultural identity. Guests also had the opportunity to enjoy Turkmen national cuisine, which was warmly received and appreciated by participants.
A special highlight of the program was the musical performance of the Turkmen song "Türkmen Sährasy" (The Turkmen Steppe), composed by renowned Turkmen composer Nury Halmammedov, with lyrics by celebrated poet Gurbannazar Ezizov. The piece was performed by a Turkmen student studying in Austria, adding a personal and heartfelt element to the celebration and drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.
The Embassy emphasized that Nowruz, recognized by the United Nations as an international day, stands as a symbol of renewal, unity, and peace. Its celebration at the UN Vienna venue highlighted the relevance of cultural diplomacy and the role of traditional values in strengthening mutual respect and cooperation among nations.
By participating in this multilateral initiative, Turkmenistan reaffirmed its commitment to promoting intercultural dialogue and friendship, in line with its foreign policy principles and the spirit of the International Year of Peace and Trust.
