Turkmenbashi International Seaport Highlights Green and Digital Progress at OSCE Meeting

The Head of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, Mr. Seyitguly Bayseyidov, took part in the meeting of the OSCE Economic and Environmental Committee, devoted to the topic “Connectivity – climate-resilient trade and transport in facilitating economic development” on 8 October 2025
In his address, Turkmenistan’s comprehensive approach to sustainable connectivity and transport modernisation, emphasizing the country’s role as a key transit and logistics hub in the Caspian region was presented. Also was outlined ongoing efforts to strengthen climate resilience, digitalisation and clean-energy integration within the national transport system, in accordance with Turkmenistan’s National Climate Change Strategy.
Special emphasis was placed on the cooperation between Turkmenistan and the OSCE under the project “Promoting Green Ports and Connectivity in the Caspian Region.” Within this framework, the Turkmenbashi International Seaport has achieved significant progress in environmental performance and management, becoming the first port on the Eastern Caspian to receive the international EcoPort Certificate. This certification, issued under the European Sea Ports Organisation standards with OSCE support, recognizes the port’s concrete steps in energy efficiency, waste-water treatment, emission reduction, and biodiversity protection.
This achievement reflects Turkmenistan’s commitment to implementing the outcomes of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), including the Awaza Political Declaration and the Programme of Action for 2024–2034, which call for greener, smarter, and more inclusive transport systems.
The meeting gathered representatives from the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, the World Bank, the International Transport Forum (ITF), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, as well as delegates from OSCE participating States. Discussions focused on promoting sustainable and climate-resilient transport, digitalisation of logistics, and enhanced cooperation between ports and regional institutions.
On the margins, Mr. Bayseyidov met with Ambassador Bakyt Dzhusupov, OSCE Co-ordinator of Economic and Environmental Activities. Both sides reviewed ongoing cooperation and discussed new opportunities in green logistics, digital trade systems, and sustainable transport corridors under upcoming OSCE initiatives in 2026.
Turkmenistan’s active engagement reaffirmed its commitment to regional partnership and sustainable connectivity, contributing to a secure, innovative, and environmentally responsible transport future across the OSCE region.
